There were 227
children of Bethany Home
who lost their lives. It is
now two years since we
erected our memorial, and
still we wait on our
government to admit that
they have wronged them
and us survivors.
As the State and
Churches look the other
way, they have apologised
to our brothers and sisters
for all that wrong but we
still await our apologies,
even though we started
over 23 years ago to try and
get our justice.
Many others did as
well, but we had false starts
in 1999, 2002 and 2004.
The St Patrick baby and
mother home, and some
others that did not have
survivors searching for
justice, got their apologies
in 2005. The Magdalene
Laundries got it in 2012.
But for us a lot of
governments have come
and gone, and still no
answers. Why are we still
waiting?
