We have received a great many calls as to the High Court Case against the CBS Salthill. Co Galway. Much of the speculation is centred on the evidence given or made available to the court and whether this evidence was the same evidence also submitted to the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse and also submitted to the Residential Institutions Redress Board. Questions as to how these same statements can be used in the courts whilst also forming part of the Independent Commission and the Independent Redress Board cases are causing many to question the confidentiality or otherwise of these institutions. Questions as to why the same Christian Brothers can attend all of the different hearings (Commission-Redress and the Courts) have also caused questions to be asked. The truth is that we do not know anything about the High Court Case because it was mainly held "in Camera". Everything is pure speculation and it is difficult to get any legal angle on this. In the absence of any creditable information we cannot give any real answers to these questions and would strongly advise everyone not to place too much emphasis on gossip or rumour or indeed what they read in other places as purporting to be fact.
