JERSEY CHILD MURDER VICTIM?

Added on March 13, 2008

[ Over 150 people have now made allegations of child abuse in Jersey and the police are searching for up to 7 bodies but this is the first time that we have come close to getting the name of an alleged murder victim. ANYONE can claim to have been abused 20, 30 or 40 years ago and it is impossible to prove otherwise. However if you are saying that a child was murdered then you had better be in a position to supply the name of the "victim".

Watch developments closely. The police should be requested to let us know the name of this alleged victim. Otherwise there is a danger that they may find out that the lady is still alive (!) and then keep quiet about it in order to spare their blushes.

Murder Inquiry Likely Over Jersey Home Abuses
Daily Telegraph, by Stephen Adams in Jersey
11 March 2008

Forensic work is set to start on the second chamber of the secret cellar under Haut de la Garenne in Jersey

A murder inquiry could now be launched as a result of the investigation into child sex abuse at a Jersey care home, police have said.

Lenny Harper, the island's deputy chief police, was speaking after giving details of the disappearance of a young girl from the Haut de la Garenne home in the 1970s.

She apparently vanished after being subjected to an "act of violence" there, Mr Harper said.

It is the first time police have referred to the disappearance of a specific individual from the former home in St Martin.

Mr Harper said: "Of course we cannot rule the possibility out that this could be a murder inquiry.

"That is one of the reasons we are carrying out the operation at Haut de Le Garenne.

"As we have stated previously, we have to treat the scene as a major crime scene and possible homicide until proven otherwise."

The force has so far not named the potential victim.

They are still awaiting the results of scientific tests, which may take several weeks, on blood spots and on a skull fragment and other bones found at the site.

Mr Harper gave details of the girl's disappearance, based on an eye-witness account.

He said the girl could have been killed in what he described as "an indirect act of violence".

He continued: "The witness claims that the child was not seen or heard from again after the incident."

However, Mr Harper also added: "There could have been an innocent explanation for her disappearance from the home."

Late on Monday a specially trained police dog detected the scent of human remains in a bricked-up cellar, which is part of a network of alleged "punishment rooms".

No blood or bones have been found yet in the second cavern, which is three times the size of a 12ft sq underground chamber discovered 10 days ago.

So far 100 victims and 40 witnesses have alleged that sexual and physical abuse took place at the home from the 1960s to 1986.
