A report on the work of the Residential Institutions Redress Board (March 26th) incorrectly suggested that the board had received 1,500 late applications after the closure date for applications in December 2005. A board newsletter reported at the end of 2006 it had in fact "received a total of 166 applications since that date". The rate of late applications has not changed significantly this year.
The report also quoted allegations by a spokesman for Survivors of Child Abuse UK of significant overcharging by solicitors in respect of appli?cations to the board. The group Irish Survivors of Child Abuse disputes the claim as exaggerated and has sought clarification of the fact that the two groups are not related.
