RT? News has learned that Con Desmond, the priest convicted in Waterford Circuit Court in December of indecent assault charges, had sought a judicial review of his case in the High Court.

The Courts Service has confirmed to RT? that Fr Desmond issued proceedings in the High Court after the charges were made against him in late 2002 that he had abused a 10-year-old boy in the early 1980s.

The High Court did not issue a written report but delivered a judgment on 21 December 2005 which stated that the judicial review being sought by Fr Desmond was being refused and the trial was to proceed.

Fr Desmond was given a three-year suspended sentence in December after pleading guilty to indecently assaulting a young boy a number of times in the early 1980s.
