Letter to Western People
Wednesday, August 09, 2006
SIR - Your correspondent John Cooney?s ever poisonous pen in relation to anything to do with the Church, and, in particular, in his recent article in your newspaper ?Uncovering a House of Correction for Priests? states that such a place existed for priests ?who had tendered themselves unfit to work?.
He states that ?intriguingly Church archives do not specify the vices indulged in by fallen clerics?.
A few paragraphs further, he states unequivocally, that many unmarried young women were leaving home to ?conceal illegitimate pregnancies from illicit sexual relations or rapes by priests?.
Unless he can technically substantiate this claim, I would suggest that he himself enter a ?House of Correction? where he would be obliged to take a course in ethics. Until such time as he does, and until such time as he can write without prejudice, slur, or innuendo, he should withdraw from journalism which he discredits by his ranting.
Yours sincerely
Chris Kimmerling,
Tavanaghmore,
Foxford.
