Sligo Circuit Court has ordered that the retrial of a former Marist brother on charges of indecent assault is to take place in Dublin.

Christopher Cosgrove of Ballyhaunis Road, Claremorris, Co Mayo applied to have the trial transferred from Sligo to Dublin partly on the basis of media coverage. His counsel argued that media coverage could affect the minds of jurors.

Counsel for the Director of Public Prosecutions said that there would be a considerable fade factor in relation to such reports and opposed the transfer of the trial.
However, Judge Anthony Kennedy said that in the interest of justice it was best to transfer the trial to Dublin.
